Compressor System

The Saga......

For those of you that have visited WWDC over the last three weeks, you will have noticed a few stressed faces from the WWDC with reference to filling tanks!!

One of our compressors was stripped down to the nuts and bolts as it required a service. No problems there, until our other compressor has an electrical switchbox fire on a Saturday afternoon! We managed to carry on filling tanks throughout the weekend by using all the air left in our banks, and praise the lord for Haskel Booster pumps!!

In an effort to keep divers diving, we then brought in a new smaller compressor which we quickly realised wasn’t going to be up to the job we needed it for. So that went back and we contacted Hamworthy who didn’t have any available for lease! I contemplated getting a super charged bicycle pump at one time, which would have given all staff members a good arm workout!

What are we doing now........

The compressor that had it’s switch box charred is now fully functional again. Many thanks to Merv for the speedy repsonse and for bringing the wiring into the 21st Century!! It’s also got a new motor and has automation capacity, so it’s a real happy peice of machinery now!

The existing compressor that was down to the nuts and bolts has now been totally re-built and also has automation capability. That is ready to be piped back into the equation. The submarine Ballast tanks are going and being replaced with 10 x 50litre banks which should arrive in September. 300bar air and Nitrox are all available as usual.

What to expect in the future......

Throughout the winter months we’re going to be taking the filling station out of the shop, to not only make more room in the shop, but also so we can totally re-vamp the whole way we fill tanks. New panels, more whips, bigger gas capacity, and water filled vats so your tanks will be cooled whilst filling will mean you won’t be waiting as long for you fills especially during the busy school holidays!

This huge re-investment so early on after taking the business on should hopefully prove to the knockers that we’re here to stay and here to drive up the standard of diving facilities in Pembrokeshire. We remain as we have for the last two seasons committed to safety and customer service above all else.

Many Thanks to the friends of WWDC and all visitors/divers to the centre who showed support and understanding during our compressor hecticness!! Special thanks goes to Greg & Alison from Remar, and Les from WT compressor services who helped us to help you, keep diving. (Greg-still working on that promise!)
